Jim Jarmusch: I like to look in the shadows and the margins to find things that aren't considered dramatic like a taxi ride or a cup of coffee.

I'm attracted to those in-between moments because in life a lot of very moving and important things come out of them. And in this film, I didn't want to give you too much information about where we were in America: I wanted the airports and rental cars and highways to look the same. We even made up fake licence plates. I'd say to the crew that we were filming in Generica.
